[2] Ortiz is most famous for his involvement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) where he was a former Light Heavyweight Champion, having been the champion since April 14th, 2000, until September 26 2003. He was among the first athletes to be a part of the sport, along with fighters such as Randy Couture or Chuck Liddell. Ortiz eventually became the most popular pay-per-view star of 2006 due to his fights with Liddell, Forrest Griffin, and Ken Shamrock.Ortiz is the CEO of Punishment Athletics MMA equipment and clothing line, which is located in his hometown of Huntington Beach, California.
