Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the top-streamed track within 6 months. It was a combination of reggaeton with pop that did not just bring new interest to reggaeton, but the popularity of Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs in 2016 compared to two in the year 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 for 2020. the number of songs that made it was 41. The release of Justin Bieber's bilingual version to Despacito (2017) famous artists started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma on Medellin (2019). At the time of 2020, some reggaeton musicians were unhappy with the genre's direction toward the mainstream but a new generation such as Rauw Alejandro, aimed to maintain the pace of evolution in reggaeton. His style often included elements of electronic dance music, and other genres.
